Upon Reflection

I've honestly been procrastinating on this post. Not because of writer's block or any other inabilities, but because I'm in awe. I can not believe that one of the biggest school years of my life so far is over. Sophomore year is done.

As a writer, my words are my weaponry, but a force of good not evil of course. But what happens when the experience you want to illustrate for others is so incredibly exhilarating, enlightening, enticing that your weapon of choice has appeared to lose its' significance? Then what? Yeah, I don't really know either. But in life, not knowing an answer isn't reason to give up but even more reason to keep fighting.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that my second year at Texas State University was well worth every penny spent, every all-i-have-to-eat-is-noodles moment, every homesick tear shed, every lonely moment, and even every 5+ hour library session.

I couldn't have chosen a better school for myself. Not only were my classes (for the most part) engaging but I feel as though I have retained so much more information about myself. And, for me, that is what's most important. I've been a very self-reflective individual, and that's a good thing, but who are you really if you've never left the nest? How will you know what you're made of if you never go out on your own? I finally got a chance to find out.

What I've learned? Well...
  1. Family means more to me now than ever before.
  2. My real friendships strengthen not weaken with distance.
  3. Procrastination is not convenient no matter what it seems like.
  4. No matter how discreet you think you are, you eventually get caught smoking weed.
  5. NEVER EVER SHARE A BATHROOM WITH MORE THAN ONE PERSON.
  6. The most important form of love is not shown through intimacy but through support.
  7. Not everyone was raised the same way you were.
  8. When it comes to good grades, sleep and a social life? You can only have 2 out of 3.
  9. The library is your friend.
  10. Starbucks was sent to you from Jesus Christ himself, thank that man.
That pretty much sums it up. College is great but if you're not here yet, don't rush to grow up. High School doesn't prepare you at all. There is no preparation, you just have to do it. No risk, no gain.

BRING ON SUMMER!
With love from your favorite college junior :-)
